resort with waterpark

My family will be going to Myrtle Beach the end of August. We are looking into Ocean Dunes Resort because of the waterpark and health club. If anyone has any first hand info on this resort.

resort with waterpark

I believe Sand Dunes is the hotel witht he resort on site. We will be going in a few weeks. I am nervous about all the bad reviews I have seen here

resort with waterpark

We have never stayed at the Ocean/Sand Dunes but only walked thru the property last year. I was surprised at the age and cleanliness issues in the common areas. We normal stay at the Embassy Suites at Kingston Plantation. Our children are in their late teens so the waterpark is not a selling point to us. With that said, the waterpark at the Embassy is so neat. We always stay on a high floor overlooking the pools. It looks so much fun that I want to join in with the kids!!!

We%26#39;ve been staying at the Sandy Breach Resort the last several years (since the original owners sold the Roxanne) and think it is great for the money. Be sure to get a room in the Magnolia building. The Strands only oceanfront water park is right next door.

http://www.beachtrips.com

we went to the ocean dunes two years ago and won%26#39;t go back again. the buildings and rooms were old. the waterpark is a joke. small, no where to sit, very few chairs and too many people. we are thinking about the the sea mist, the waterpark looks much nicer.

The Seamist is nice, particularly the waterpark, as it is it%26#39;s primary spotlight. The Family Value Pkg is nice, but expensive during peak season. We just came back from MB June 4, and the rates were so high at the Seamist, we ended up at the Palace Resort, which in my opinion is very nice, providing you view the available suites/condos prior to booking, some aren%26#39;t up to date at all. The Palms Building at the Seamist is the best view, overlooking the waterpark, however, if you have small toddlers/infants, is quite noisy with the balcony doors open. We are going back to MB the end of July, so I am hoping to find some good deals/specials myself....any suggestions from anyone?

I am sorry but I completely disagree with the SeaMist. It is an extemely old hotel full of mold and mildew! Not at all clean. Went to stay there last year and ended up walking right out, it was horrible! We went to the Embassy Suites at Kingston Plantation and couldn%26#39;ve been happier. It was so clean, great amenities.

You might want to look into the Affordable Family Resort it has 3 waterslides a children%26#39;s activity pool w/slide and water mushroom and waterbuckets, playground, adult pool etc.

we got home from myrtle beach this week.we stayed at sand dunes right beside of ocean dunes/.the waterpark is located in the front area of sand dunes .its a short walk from ocean dunes.my grandkids ages 2 ,5,7,8, loved this place.it was crowded but we always found somewhere to sit.one day the outdoor pool was closed at our hotel so we walked next door to ocean dunes and used theirs, they were about the same size.i don%26#39;t know about the gym we never went inside.

Crown Reef

We will also be staying here. I have heard from a few friends that this is a great place to stay. My husband suggested it. We were at the Breakers last year and I wanted to stay there again. I hope we aren%26#39;t disapointed.

Crown Reef

I just got back and I liked it, I was worried cause of all the negative reviews and I was ready to be disappointed, but I was pleasantly surprised, the amenties are great, the room was good. No major complaints, there were little things like the ice machines not working, some tiles missing from the lazy river, my fridge had a couple of dings in it, but I felt that the good really outweighed the bad and we had a wonderful time.

water taxi

okay, i%26#39;ve looked and looked for info on how/where to catch the ferry over to the island...can someone help?

water taxi

hi donna, just returned from hilton head and road the ferry to dauguskie island. the first one leaves at 8:00am and then about every hour until 10:00 pm. it will take me a bit to find the info, but if you have a map of hilton head you turn off of hyway 278 on to squire pope rd. and head north appox. 2 miles and the dock is on the left hand side of the road. you will see a big parking lot. also i believe they require a reservation call a day ahead of time. i look for my info and try to forward more stuff. ken

water taxi

Donna,

The gentleman above is correct you catch the ferry at 421 Squire Pope Rd. Reservations are required and the ferries leave Hilton Head on the even hour starting at 8am and going to 10pm(10:30pm in the winter). The cost of the ferry is $36.50 PP and this is roundtrip. You will have to call for reservations at the Dispatch Office for Daufuskie Island Resort and Breathe Spa, the number is (843)341-4870.

Hope that this helps.

We just returned from there. AWFUL. Change your plans. Dirty, unhelpful employers, nothing worked. every guest we met was also unhappy and changing rooms. we tried three and then checked out. went to hilton head and recovered.

Current Weather?

I am 9 days from vacation to MB, and looking at the weather forcast on weather.com shows isolated T-Storms for the 10 day forcast......I was hoping for some information from a local regarding the current weather conditions and what to expect.

Also, we will be there for the 4th of July. Any specific good places on the beach to go to watch the fireworks?

Thanks for the help!

Current Weather?

Well I looked on weather.com too and if it has a 20% 30% or 40% it pretty much wont rain! So you look like you will have a pretty good week! I am going July 14-July21 and it still wont tell you so I hope it will be good because I love to lay out on the beach! HAVE A NICE TRIP

Current Weather?

I just got back from Myrtle, I went from 6/17 - 6-24, the weather channel, had forecasted Thunderstorms every single day I was there, I did not see a drop of rain and I don%26#39;t even think I saw a cloud in the sky, the locals told me that that is a typical forecast, they always say a chance of T-storms due to the location cause they can come up at any time, but rarely do.

It%26#39;s been raining all day. But the forecast here fluxuates so much. Usually we get rain in spells. Good weather for a few weeks, bad weather for a week. But for the past week or so, the weather has been hot and pleasurable.

North Myrtle, South Myrtle center Myrtle Whats the Diff?

Please give me a brief idea of what the coast is divided like. I see North Myrtle, South Myrtle and center.

In a nutshell what does each location specialize in.

Thanks

North Myrtle, South Myrtle center Myrtle Whats the Diff?

Hi, I live about an hour from Myrtle Beach and thought I%26#39;d try to help you out. Myrtle Beach is not really that big so any area is nice but the north and south ends have most of the bigger resorts with more ammenities, the larger suites to accomodate larger families etc. South Beach is probably nicer in some ways but the north end seems to be less crowded so traffic is not as bad. There are places to shop and things to do no matter which area you choose but the central area is the busiest. So depending on your needs. If you%26#39;re going to party probably pick central, family vacation with kids I would say north or south end and if you want a little more peace and quiet the north side. Also Broadway at the Beach is kind of north central and Barefoot Landing and many of the theatres are the north end. Hope that helps!

North Myrtle, South Myrtle center Myrtle Whats the Diff?

The main three areas are: North Myrtle, Myrtle, and Surfside. North Myrtle has restaurant row with tons of seafood places, as well as Tanger Outlet stores and Barefoot Landing, so shopping is nearly the specialization there. Myrtle Beach has most of the hotels, especially on the Blvd. Also, most entertainment is around this area like themed restaurants, clubs, and amusement. Surfside is mainly beach houses and family oriented vacation rentals. Traffic is lower, and it is closer to Murrells Inlet which offers another large selection of seafood. Also, the beaches I would say are less crowded.

All in all, North Myrtle and Surfside are about a 15 min. drive from Myrtle Beach (as some might call Central) so they are all pretty fused together.

thanks for the input. appreciate u takin the time

narrowing down my choices...

We are going to myrtle Beach in august. 2 families with young children (4 1/2,6 1/2 and 2,4 1/2). We need one of those 1 bedroom suites. (so that when the children go to bed the adults have somewhere to go) I have looked into a 4bedroom condo rental as well, but they only do entire weeks starting on Sat%26#39;s and we are coming in on a friday and staying 4 nights.

Other considerations are things such as kid activies, indoor and outdoor pools, water park is a great plus!. Also we want a place that is not disgusting. I have narrowed it down to:

ocean creek resort

ocean dunes (part of the sands?)

Coral beach

Seamist

Grande Shores

Something in kingston plantation (lots of private rentals there)

Going priceline and getting 2 rooms. Will be in kingston(hilton) or the raddison from what I have gathered from biddingfortravel. Also could get away with 70/per room bid.

For our end of it we are trying to get away with paying no more than 600$ for the 4 nights. My friends might want a bigger room and would be willing to pay a bit more.

For the places listed above, do you think we would be happy at any of them? Is there someplace I missed that is clean and has waterparks and children activities.

narrowing down my choices...

Felix...Please try this website...Oceancreek.net...They have condos here at really good prices...if you have any trouble accessing this site please let me know and I will get you phone number...We stay at Ocean Creek for past 11 years..and have a great time..If you can request condo CC2 or 3 I can not remember..sorry but it is a brand new unit ocean front..in the south tower...it is a 3 bedroom 3 bath unit..just beautiful...brand new...They have several pools and a beach club with food and drinks which is really convenient and nice and at night they ususally have entertainment..There is No lazy river...which is a little disappointing.

narrowing down my choices...

Might want to check out the Affordable Family Resort. It has 3 waterslides a nice kiddie pool w/ slide ,water umbrella and waterbucket toys, nice playground , can feed the ducks etc. Owners used to own the Seamist.

also what about the landmark.?

thanks so far!

sandy

I%26#39;ve stayed at Ocean Creek before and it has always been GREAT! This year I am staying at the Breakers because the kids are older and that area will be better for them. At Ocean Creek we always stayed in the Garden Homes. They are two large bedrooms with a pull out couch. They also have a large kitchen and a dinning area. The last week of Aug are always cheaper down there as the kids down south go back to school early. The only problem with the Garden Homes is that they are pretty far from the beach! But the kids can ride bikes right out in front of your place. It%26#39;s also pretty quite there.

don%26#39;t thnk Landmark would be good with children that yound

We just returned home from Mytrle beach and stayed at Grande shores, my wife and I stayed in a 1 bedroom condo, or a 2 room suite, it was huge it had king bed in the bedroom (but most of them have 2 doubles) and had a murphy bed and a sleeper sofa in the living room, plus a full kitchen. There where tons of things to do for kids, they had daily activities scheduled the kids could do. We enjoyed out time so much we have decieded to go back the 2nd week in August and bring our children (4 and 9 months) along with my brother and sister in law. We booked a 2 bedroom condo for the return trip, we looked at one before booking at it was even bigger with an even bigger kitchen they also have 3 bedroom condo%26#39;s there as well. I highly recommend this resort.

  • to tiki or not to tiki

Can anyone give me any information about the tiki rooms at the holiday sands south? I plan to stay there but not if its a slum.KInda worried about it.....Anyone?Anywhere? please :)

to tiki or not to tiki

Thx very much Terrylee5151..I will try that site.

We%26#39;ll be there at the end of August.

    Where to stay???

I%26#39;m going to MB sometime in July and I%26#39;m on a budget. What are some nice places to stay with reasonable prices? I%26#39;ve recently looked at springmaid resort and have considered staying at the Jamaican inn after reading the positive comments on this site. My only concern with the Jamaican is they have do not have non smoking rooms and I%26#39;m afraid the rooms will smell. Looking for some advice

    Where to stay???

Try the Viking Oceanfront Motel or the Affordable Family Resort

    Where to stay???

We are leaving tomorrow night (YIPEE!!!) for the Meridian Plaza. My husband and I have booked a king bed, fully equipped full sized kitchen, sleeper sofa, oceanfront balcony, oceanfront room for 95 per night. Give it a try! I believe it%26#39;s number 59 on the popularity list for MB.

The Best western Grand Stand has a lot of non-smoking rooms and non smoking common area no smoking policy. If you book them on line you get 10% off their rates.you might want to consider them.www.myrtlebeachbestwestern.com They start out at about $111.00 plus an extra 10% off.I believe they offer free breakfast too which will save money too.Good luck and have fun.

thanks for the advise, I%26#39;ll check into these hotels.

There are hordes of cheap hotels along the blvd, but are by no means as nice as some of the larger ones. But however, they usually still are clean on the inside, if not a little rustic on the outside. This month, I had some friend%26#39;s come down from Clemson and they stayed at the Blue Bay Inn along the blvd. and seemed to like it. The room had two double beds in it and was clean.

looking for a house to rent in north myrtle for summer...

I am looking for a house to rent on the ocean this summer for one week that will accommodate up to 10 people. Can anyone recommend a nice house or rental agency to check out.

looking for a house to rent in north myrtle for summer...

    Hi,

I haven%26#39;t rented in the NMB area for the past 8 years, since we purchased our own beach house up the coast a little, in Holden Beach, NC. We still go back to the Ocean Drive area sometimes to enjoy great Beach Music and ';shagging';. The rental agencies we have used in NMB are Elliott Realty, and Grand Strand Vacations. Both have websites and offer a number of oceanfront homes.

    Best Wishes!

    Aruba04,

Good evening. My wife and I own a condo in North Myrtle Beach which will satisfy your requirements. It located in Ocean Bay Club, which has very high reviews on this site. We own unit #1409 which can be rented from Elliott Realty (http://www.northmyrtlebeachtravel.com).

If you want additional photos please visit our own personal website (http://www.northmyrtlerental.com).

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like any more information.

    call 1 800 334 3798 for information on houses to rent.www.bcrvac.com

Try www.vrbo.com (vacation rental by owners)--usually cheaper b/c the owners are renting themselves vs. using a real estate agency. I have also rented from white realty www.white-realty.com several times in the past. Good Luck!

Have the rules changed regarding beach umbrellas set up ??

After viewing the live picture at the Beach Cove resort most everyday, I notice that people have set up their umbrellas in FRONT of the rental ones. This was never allowed, at least on those trips that I made here and at other hotels. Are the lifeguards letting you set up where ever you want even blocking the views of those who paid for the rental ones?

    seasheller

Have the rules changed regarding beach umbrellas set up ??

    Seasheller,

Last year the lifegaurds were still enforcing the rule of no umbreallas in front of the rental umbrellas....

Have the rules changed regarding beach umbrellas set up ??

I think the rule now (at least where we have stayed) is that you cannot put your personal umbrellas up if it will be obstructing the view of the lifeguard - I think alot also depends on the lifeguard on duty in the morning when you go down to the beach. We have always gotten the rentals and people do come block our view, but when the tide comes in they have to hurry to get out of the way.

    still looking

Still looking for some advice on the Boardwalk Beach resort. 8 families going there over 4th of July. any advice helpful.

    still looking

I live here in Myrtle Beach (just moved a few months ago.) I am also looking at a nice place to book our out of town guests for one of my daughter%26#39;s upcoming wedding in October. I thought I%26#39;d just drive around to some of the better looking hotels (NOT in the honky-tonk area) and see what the actual rooms/prices, etc. look like. I%26#39;ll be glad to let you know my opinion of the Boardwalk, anyway, for what it%26#39;s worth.

Since it%26#39;s sort of overcast today, it%26#39;ll be a good day for me to take care of this -- I%26#39;ll get back to you later.

    still looking

Okay, I went by Boardwalk and wasn%26#39;t terribly impressed. Actually, I didn%26#39;t even real feel like getting out of the car to go in to inquire. I did, however, go in a couple of hotels down to a nice looking place called The Breakers Resort Hotel. It has the lazy river thing that the kids love %26amp; looked much higher class than the other hotel. I think the prices are similiar, but even if the Breakers cost $20-$25 more I think you%26#39;ll find it%26#39;s worth the extra.

I don%26#39;t know if ya%26#39;ll are real familiar with Myrtle Beach or not, but the street number of the hotel tells you which avenue it%26#39;s on. (2305 would be on 21st ave, for instance.) The Pavilion and all the really honky-tonk stuff that I would try to avoid is on 9th Ave. North. I wouldn%26#39;t book a hotel much closer than 20th or 21st Ave. North or South. Anything from that point on in either direction are going to be nicer hotels.

There are some really good restaurants around if you%26#39;re interested (Sea Captain%26#39;s House on 31st is great -- good, fresh seafood on the ocean -- a local favorite; Bumz on the Beach right next to The Breakers is a fun place right on the sand with good, cold beer, good burgers and live music at night) I can tell you about more if you%26#39;re interested.

If you have kids traveling with, go to Broadway on the Beach (around 21st Ave. %26amp; 501) There%26#39;s lots of little shops, restaurants, the Ripley%26#39;s Aquarium the little guys would love and a brand new thing called MagicQuest the older kids and young adults would love. It%26#39;s kind of an interactive video game in which you are the character - you get a wand and have to actually go around and do the game yourself.

I don%26#39;t want to write too much, but if you need more help just ask me a specific question and I%26#39;ll try. I%26#39;d also recommend going to Expedia%26#39;s webiste and look up hotels in the Myrtle Beach area. They have them listed in their search area (if you look for a specific name they give you a ';hotels list'; option. They are all rated with stars and give photos and info on each. Good luck %26amp; I hope ya%26#39;ll have a ball!

okay, duh. I realized one of my typos was in my example of the avenues: 2305 would be on 23rd Ave., not 21st. Sorry.

thanks for the the info. We are going with about 8 families and have already booked the boardwalk. The rooms are in booked in the South Tower I unit. YIKES I think we made a big mistake. We are going for a dance competition so we won%26#39;t really be using the rooms for much just to sleep. We are only hoping that they are at leat clean!!!!!

    Thanks again for the info

    Weather in August

Can some one tell me what the typical weather in August is? We just got back from Myrtle beach and is was real nice mid 80%26#39;s durning the day, Ocean was still a little cool. We are going back with our children the 2nd week of August and was wondering what the weather would be like?

    Weather in August

In August it will be very hot. You will have no worries about the warmth of the water. It will also be very humid. Check it out by going to weatherchannel.com and typing in Myrtle Beach. Right now it is 85 but with the high humidity the heat index is 95. In August it will be around 90 so add another 10 degrees or so for the heat index and it will feel like around 100. UNLESS a storm front moves through. August is also a rainy month and the storms help cool things off.

    Weather in August

M.B. stays warm good into the fall. In terms of precipiatation and day to day weather, no real way to forecast that.

    Help with new location!!!

I have been to Myrtle Beach many, many times. I have stayed at Beach Colony, Breakers and many I can%26#39; t remember there name. I am looking for a fun, clean place with room for 5. Help for 2 family travelling together short stay

Hi! I am looking for a 2 family place to stay on the ocean with kid activities but we are only going for 3 days so it looks like most condos are out. The hotels all are for one room suites and we need 2 rooms (with beds). Plus we are concerned about the reviews on so many of the hotels. One child is still crawling and a nasty room will send mom over the edge. haha. Money a factor so the kingston plantation at 350 a night is a bit much. More like 175-200 would be OK. Suggestions please!!

Oceanfront lodging close to shopping, restaurants, etc.?

Any recommendations? Trying to help a friend who is staying there the end of August. Her boyfriend will be golfing most days and she will not have a car and wants to be able to walk places - oceanfront is a must!

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Oceanfront lodging close to shopping, restaurants, etc.?

Well, the way Myrtle Beach and surrounding areas are laid out makes it nearly impossible to accomodate that. The five biggest places for shopping are Coastal Grand Mall, Tanger Outlets NMB, Barefoot Landing, Tanger Outlets 501, and Broadway at the beach. All of these are laid out on major hwy%26#39;s (17, and 501), which are no where near oceanfront, although they have lodging nearby.

Oceanfront lodging close to shopping, restaurants, etc.?

I don%26#39;t think she wanted to be close to a mall, just maybe some small stores. Perhaps some of the larger resort hotels have some shops or restaurants on site so she would have everything she needs right there? I also must admit that I%26#39;ve read a lot of the hotel reviews on Trip Advisor and I%26#39;m a bit taken aback to see so many negative ones - seems like there are some really inconsistent reviews even among the higher rated properties!

    Sea Mist? Worth it?

Hi have already posted a question about resorts, but did go ahead and book Sea Mist.

Anyone with tips or suggestions, it would be appreicated.

I have two small kids I hope I can keep occupied for four days. I hope it will fun.

I guess I%26#39;m looking for some reassurance we are in an okay resort.

    Thanks

    Sea Mist? Worth it?

It is a very good resort, esp. for families. We have stayed there a couple of times. They have the Sea Mist waterpark that is just for guests of the resort. It is like $2-$3, has a lazy river, and one long tube slide. It has a big playground area (like you would find in the McDonald%26#39;s play areas (but alot bigger). There is also waterpark area for the kids to play in. THere is also an arcade and game room just down from the waterpark. Also, there is a putt putt area for guests as well that is probably about $3 a person. I remember that they have alot of stuff scheduled for the kids (just ask at the front desk for activities). They also have their own ice cream parlor, big pools, restaurant.

Any questions, just let me know.

    Sea Mist? Worth it?

it is a great resort for families.if you get the family package deal the waterpark and all amenties are free.it is a great deal for families.the rooms are not great but,you do not spend much time in them anyway with all the activities going on at the resort.you should request a renovated room.

Thank you both, I wanted some reassurance that I have selected a good option for me and my kids. Dad hates the beach and they love it, so it is just us!

I did select the family splash package, which included the water park %26amp; mini golf. We get tickets to the family amusement %26amp; water park.

    Is that worth going to?

I have heard good and bad about this resort, so I was a little concerned.

I don%26#39;t understand people responding to other posts that Sea Mist is a good value, it was more than staying at Sea Crest, but I hope it is worth it.

    Thanks for your responses!

The amusement parks is worth it and fun too.You will enjoy it as well. The sea crest is not as much because they do not have as many amenities as sea mist.

    dmenger

I think your family will have a great time at the Seamist Resort. My family and I will be there June 23rd thru the 26th. This will be our 4th stay at Seamist . I have three children and they love it. People say it could be nicer but if your a family of 5 , nicer cost alot more money. I%26#39;m even taking my family from Texas with us. I beleave your family will have a great time and we may even see you there. I know we are staying in the Sandcastle Building, oceanfront.

    styco5

The Sea Mist is a great family beach hotel. They have decent rooms and good ammenities. The amusement park has the biggest roller coaster on the Grand Strand.

    Enjoy your stay.

We returned home on Sunday , June 26th from another wonderful trip at Myrtle Beach, where we stayed at the SeaMist Resort for or 5th time. It was great as always. I hope everyone has as much fun as my family did. We can%26#39;t wait till next year.

    Sea Crest Ocean Front Resort

Hoping for any feedback from people who have stayed at this hotel. I don%26#39;t need the Ritz but would like to be able to take my shoes off in the room without concern. Thanks. We%26#39;ll be with our 2 kids ages 6 and 8. Hoping for a decent beach and pools without creepy crawlies. (and a room without a mysterious odor). Thanks for any input.

    Sea Crest Ocean Front Resort

My family and I stayed there April 15-17, 2005. We had an oceanfront suite on the 12th floor. The only problems we had with this hotel were the elevators. They were slow, but sometimes they were fast, depending on use. I enjoyed our stay at SeaCrest, and I cannot wait to go back this summer. I don%26#39;t know about the other rooms, but our room did not have a mysterious odor. The rooms need new appliances, though. The furniture was very nice in my opinion. The beach is absolutely lovely! However, I did make ONE mistake. I got into the ocean (silly me) and got sick. Maybe because the ocean water was so cold and it was the middle of April! The sand is nice and soft. I loved sitting on the balcony at sunset every night and watching the sun go down over the ocean. Absolutely beautiful! I%26#39;m sure you and your children will enjoy SeaCrest, Starved4Sun. If you go to any restaurants in Myrtle Beach, DO NOT go to Grandma%26#39;s Kitchen! The food is not good and its not worth what we paid for it. Overall, I loved SeaCrest and our stay there! I hope you all have fun, Starved4Sun!

    Sea Crest Ocean Front Resort

We love the Sea crest Resort.Your kids will love the kiddie pool and lazy river.I felt the room was clean and free of odors. The free breakfast had a lot of variety. The beach and pool area are great. If you have any specific questions let me know I would be glad to answer them. The hotel is in a great location.

Thank you, I%26#39;m not as nervous now.

Just be careful when crossing Ocean Boulevard to go to the parking garage. Hopefully the traffic will not be as bad as it was when I was there.

    Back from Myrtle Beach

We just got back from our first trip to MB.

Stayed at the Jamaccian INN, we had a ocean front room and it was very clean, the bathroom was very small but overall the hotel was very nice. This end of the beach was not as crowded ,no lazy rivers here but quiet and relaxing.

Went to the Ripleys aquarium, Kids really liked this place and it was fun for the whole family.

Went to Nascar Cafe, food was bad and overpriced but it was neat seeing everything inside..probably wont go back though..

Went to dinner show at Dixie Stampede, This was alot of fun and the show and dinner was very nice...well worth the money.

also played some mini golf with the kids, lots of places to choose from.

Was planning on going to Myrtle Waves water park but kids wanted to play on the beach instead.

Ate at Captains House REst...right next to where we stayed good service and good food.

Also ate at Mamys (sp?) for the breakfast buffet, food was good and at $5.99 a plate not bad..

Overall MB was very nice and we will go back again next year, the kids have told us that they like MB better than anywhere we have been in Florida.

    Back from Myrtle Beach

    Thanks for the info

    Directly on the ocean motel/hotel

I was wondering if anyone can give me some advise on where to stay in Myrtle beach. Preferably on Ocean blvd. My in laws stayed at the APACHE MOTEL 2 years ago but they don%26#39;t really want to go back. They say the rooms were clean, no bugs or roaches, but it%26#39;s pretty old and run down. If we don%26#39;t find anything I guess we%26#39;ll stay there but I would like to find a new place. I%26#39;ve looked EVERYWHERE on the net and found sooo many motels but either they are too expensive or they are not directly on the beach or worst yet, they have the worst reviews.

Some of the motels don%26#39;t have websites and I%26#39;m wondering if maybe one of them is a good play to stay. Any info. or advise would be appreciated and very helpful.

P.S. I%26#39;ve also ordered many brochures, they haven%26#39;t gotten here yet but I don%26#39;t trust the brochure pics. :)

    Directly on the ocean motel/hotel

I would stay at the Beach Colony Resort because it is a very spacious place and it is right on the beach. I would reccomend it! Have FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Directly on the ocean motel/hotel

Do you want to be right in the middle of it all or do you prefer a little less congestion?

If you want to be close to everything but prefer your privacy try the Jamican Motor Inn. It is the last oceanfront motel in the Myrtle Beach area, right beside the Sea Capitains restaurant. If you have kids you might want to stay some where that has a little more to offer.

Well I%26#39;d like to be around the action but not right in the center.

I was also looking at Sandy Beach Resort. Wonder if anyone knows anything about this resort. Seems like it%26#39;s located right on the beach and near everything.

For what you would spend on a motel/ hotel I would rec. one of the low-rise condos along Ocean Blvd. They have 2-3 BR and are reasonably priced. They can be rented thru any of the agencies. We have gone for 18 years and stayed in a variety of them and have never been disapp. Elliott,CondoWorld,Grand Strand Resorts,Century21 Thomas have all been great to work with. They are all Ocean front and have pools. Just specify if you want your condo to face ocean front and what floor you want because some do not have elevators. Seascape Villa%26#39;s Ocean Garden Villa and Palmwood Villa are a few sugg. Don%26#39;t forget all are individ owned so decor varies. Just tell the realty comp. what you want. Good Luck

We love Beach Cove resort in NMB. The higher floors are nicer. The pools are beautiful and there is an outdoor bar where you can ger drinks and burgers. It%26#39;s fabulous, right on the beach and every room is ocean front. The people ther are really nice, too.

We%26#39;ve stayed at Ocean Bay Club 3 times and the Ashworth once. Very nice places and would recommend either, however Ocean Bay has a nicer pool area. Great location and reasonably priced!

    Rain...

Does it rain alot in MB in August???

    Rain...

Thunderstorms - usually passes, not steady. Although....if a front comes through there can be a steady rain. It%26#39;s rare.

    Rain...

I have been going to MB for about 12 years and only had one week where it rained everyday..but we still had fun..no tan, but a good time. We also vacation in August and hoping for some great weather also..

has anyone stayed at sea castle condo in nmb

    north myrtle beach

I know the area pretty well, and have never heard of it. What street is it on?

    north myrtle beach

it%26#39;s in cresent beach section on s. ocean blvd

My opinion; Crescent Beach section not as nice as Cherry Grove. I did a lot of searching in all areas of NMB and Cherry Grove was my preference for condo rentals and purchases for that matter. Are you looking for Ocean Front, 2nd row?

Where eat Calabash style fried shrimp

Where in Myrtle Beach can i find Fried Shrimp without going to a buffet? All I want is the Calabash style shrimp and hush puppies. I%26#39;m staying near Restaurant Row

Where eat Calabash style fried shrimp

I still prefer Calabash NC. I always stay in South Myrtle and think it is worth the drive to get the real thing.

Where eat Calabash style fried shrimp

Try The Outrigger at N. Myrtle Beach. It%26#39;s not a buffet and it%26#39;s really good!

It%26#39;s on the opposite end of town but Drunken Jacks in Murrells Inlet is great and Sea Captains House has wonderful beer battered fried shrimp!

Definately worth the drive up to the Calabash area! We have a condo in Longs and everytime we%26#39;re down there we have to make multiple trips to Crab Catchers down on the water in Little River....just a nice, down to earth kind of place where you can relax with friends and your family....sit right over the ICW and enjoy good seafood at a great price! The people who work there are just downright nice too!....so you%26#39;ll have that going for you! :o)

My very favorite Calabash restaurant, since I was a very small child (about 40 years ago) is Dockside Restaurant on the waterfront in Calabash. The shrimp are always perfect. I%26#39;m sure other restaurants in Calabash have great calabash fried shrimp as well but I always just go to Dockside. (even if I have to wait an hour+!) Several friends of mine enjoy Coleman%26#39;s Original Calabash restaurant, and Capt. Nance%26#39;s in Calabash.

My next favorite area for restaurants with great ';calabash style'; fried shrimp would be in Murrells Inlet; Lee%26#39;s Inlet Kitchen, Nance%26#39;s Creekfront, and Capt.Dave%26#39;s Dockside are my favorites there.

In my opinion, the only seafood restaurant in Myrtle Beach that serves great seafood is the Sea Captain%26#39;s House; everything is perfect everytime. It is well worth the wait. I%26#39;ve been disappointed too many times by other seafood restaurants in MB, so now I just stick with the one I know serves great seafood.

    Best Wishes!

    Le Grand Cirque

Has anyone seen this at the Palace Theatre? I saw Cirque Du Soilel in Vegas and it was pretty good.

    Le Grand Cirque

My family (husband, daughter - 12, son - 14 and I saw it on opening night and each of us enjoyed it immensely. Lots of differen types of acts so there was something for everyone. Highly recommend it.

I haven%26#39;t been to that motel, but there are quite a few in the Two Notch Rd area. AmeriSuites and Hampton Inn are A-OK.

  • Finding Italia

Anyone know the name of the wonderful ';little'; Italian restaurant just down King%26#39;s Hwy (17?) It only seats about 20 or so people, but everything was freshly made and delicious!. OH, it%26#39;s in North Myrtle, not too far north of the House of Blues. I sure hopes it%26#39;s still open! Thanks

    Finding Italia

UMBERTO%26#39;s... you%26#39;re right, it is wonderful!

    Finding Italia

    Claudineblue

We had dinner there and it was wonderful, we have a large family and no complaints.

Is it the one with trees on the roof?

Chianti South is just north of N. Myrtle in little river. One of the best in the country. Their sister restaurant came from NYC. It is truly amazing. We go to the beach once a year for a week and eat there at least twice.

The restaurant w/trees on top is Caraba%26#39;s. Food was actually quite good!

I was at one in NMB that was named ';Tony%26#39;s';.

Is it still there? This was just a few years ago. An older gentlemen even strolled the dining room playing and singing Italian music on his little guitar(forget what they are called). It was FANTASTIC!!

My daughter was about 5 then I think and he came by our table and sang the Barney song.........it was the cutest thing.

Food was incredible. Nice atmosphere. I hope it is still good. Anyone know the place?

Myrtle Beach Condos - Comments Needed

    Hello,

I am looking at the following places for a family vacation and was wondering if anyone could give me some comments on them before we make reservations.

    Sea Wind

    Oceans

    Chateau By The Sea

    San Abel

    Buena Vista

They all have availability for the week we need so now I just need some feedback on the type of place and am still trying to find out if any of them are handicap accessible as my Father is going with us and is in a wheelchair.

Any comments and\or personal ratings will be very helpful.

    Thank you!

Myrtle Beach Condos - Comments Needed

I think Chateau By The Sea doesn%26#39;t have elevators. Check that out.

adance reservations and grocery shopping for Kiawah

We will be in a condo in Kiawah for 1 week with our 2 young teens in July. Any suggestions for advance reservations we should make-besides golf? Also I read in the forum about the new ';freshfields village'; is this sufficient for grocery shopping for the week-we will likely eat 2 meals in the condo on most days?

    Thanks.

adance reservations and grocery shopping for Kiawah

    Hey,

Congrats on your vacation to Kiawah. I think you will enjoy it.

Basically, the Kiawah Market (I think that%26#39;s the name of it) has everything you will need. They have meats, pasta, breakfast foods, as well as some carry t items already cooked. Since I can%26#39;t remember the name, it%26#39;s the market directly next to The Sanctuary hotel.

For site seeing, rent some bikes, the place you will be staying will probably have some sort of magnets or something on the fridge with the #. Rates are good, and they deliver to you.

If you and your family enjoy fine dinning, check out The Jasmine Porch at The Sanctuary hotel. It might be a nice meal for you and your spouse, or you and your teens.

If you hace any other questions, feel free to ask. My wife and I went last October for a week and loved every second of it. It%26#39;s very relaxing (some might say boring) but it%26#39;s well worth it.

    ENJOY!

adance reservations and grocery shopping for Kiawah

Freshfields is a newly opened complex of stores and shops located at the end of Betsy Kerrison Parkway as you turn toward Kiawah Island. They have a large Newton Farms grocery store with a great deli and fresh fruits and vegetables section. There is also a small market in Town Center near the Sanctuary and next door to where you check-in if you are renting from the Resort. If you want to save a little money, you can shop at the Piggly Wiggly at the intersection of Main Road and Maybank Highway.

    fun hotel/location

I%26#39;m traveling to Myrtle Beach for a couple days soon. I%26#39;m looking for a budget friendly fun hotel. I would prefer one with a bar/restaurant on site if possible. I am not concerned with a kid-friendly hotel. I am looking for one on the beach, clean, and with nightlife either on the property or close by. (I%26#39;m in my thirties.)

    Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

    fun hotel/location

You will love the Coral beach resort. They have a 3 bars one site.A pool bar ,comedy club, and lounge. They play live music.A decent restaurant. The hotel is about 10-15 drive to more clubs at Broadway at the beach. You will not be disappointed with Coral beach resort.

    fun hotel/location

We go to Myrtle Beach every year and always have stayed at the Gazebo Inn...very clean and reasonable and close to everything. No lounge or restaurant but all are within walking distance.

I just got back from Myrtle Beach and I was SO DISAPPOINTED! I have already been told I stayed in the wrong area. I stayed at the North end of main Myrtle Beach area. (not North Myrtle Beach, but closest to the end of the main Myrtle Beach area.)

I don%26#39;t understand what the draw is to MB. I%26#39;m not trying to knock the place, I just didn%26#39;t find anything there I was hoping to. For instance, where are the beach bars? I found Bummz, and one at Tides, and the Flying Fish. These were all ok, but where are the rest? I was expecting to be able to walk along the beach and stop at a bar/restarant and have a sandwich and beer and listen to some one man bands. It seems the choices are extremely limited to do that.

Second, a lifeguard was extremely rude to me. I know that%26#39;s only one person, but it just added to a crappy trip.

Bethellen,I think there are not many beach side bars because MB is the #1 family beach destination in the US.

Budget/family friendly is MB -- night life (bars, music, etc) on the boardwalk/beach is Ocean City MD

    Getting around/where to stay

I am planning a quick getaway for mid August. Any suggestions on where to stay are appreciated; so far, I like the Caribbean Resort as it is very reasonable and looks like there%26#39;s lots to do. Most importantly, we need advice on getting around. We will be flying, and we do not want to rent a car. Will be be able to get around fairly easily? We are used to the beaches in Delaware and Maryland, where once you arrive, you park your car and take the bus everywhere. Thanks!

    Getting around/where to stay

Everything in MB is so spread out. I suppose you could take the buses but I%26#39;m betting it%26#39;s very time consuming. Not sure how a bus system would handle all the crossing of city lines and such. Things are spread out from Murrell%26#39;s Inlet, Surfside Beach, Garden City, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach and so on.

    Getting around/where to stay

MB has Lymo, an area mass transit system, but it%26#39;s not very effective in my opinion. Without having a car, your luck of getting around easily is pretty dismal.

I would MOST CERTAINLY rent a car. Even when you stay in the middle of it all, things are sprawled along the miles of beach. Most of the good restaurants and 99% of the shopping and attractions are on roads other than the Grand Strand. You will need a car. Public transportation is virtually nonexistent.

Well I have been going to Myrtle Beach for a while and always the buses are so full you can never really even squeeze through people. I always drive in a car because it is much easier. I would go along wih your idea and stay at the Caribbean Resort because it does seem very nice. Have a nice trip because it is going to be very hot I am going in July and it is going to be hot. HAVE FUN BECAUSE I WILL!!!!!

Grocery stores and other info in Litchfield Beach

    Hi all,

We%26#39;re going to Litchfield Beach Golf Resort on July 16. We%26#39;re familiar with the area since our home resort is in Surfside Beach, but instead of staying a mile away from the beach, we traded for beachfront!

Need to know info of the Litchfield Beach area (grocery stores, DVD rentals, et al).

    Thanks

    Marita

Grocery stores and other info in Litchfield Beach

Kitty corner across 17 is a plaza containing a piggly wiggly, blockbuster, rib restaurant, chinese food, bank etc..

Piggly is nice, restaurant was ok, service was a little iffy, maybe she was having a bad day, chinese was risky but glad we took the chance. Excellent!

Try the Clubhouse at True Blue for breakfast, cheap, great view of the 18th excellent service.

Landolfi%26#39;s for real italian coffees, pastries, pizza etc.

    Restaurants: Please Help

My fiance and I are going to be honeymooning in Myrtle in August (first time in MB) - we plan on visiting some of the original beach restaurants in the area but are kind of on a tight budget...($30-35 per meal about the limit most of the time) Are the restaurants like Appleebees, Outback, etc. more expensive in a beach town or are they about the same as they are in other locations? We want to know what to expect before we come down..thanks

    Restaurants: Please Help

I have visted myrtle beach every summer since i was a kid I do not about some other places but I can some the best places to eat Big daddys II on the 2nd ave peir, pappy%26#39;s kitchen on ocean blvd and Golden griddle pancake house in North myrtle beach the one place you need to go to is Peaches Corner on ocean blvd across from the Pavilon amusment park also stay away from Friendly%26#39;s on ocean blvd way over price and no good

    Restaurants: Please Help

I agree with ROADDAWG them are really good places! I would also stay away from the Crab Shack because it is also kind of over price but the food isnt to bad! I forget the name of the restraunt but I know where it is. This restraunt is in North Myrtle Beach it is either in the BEach Colony Resort or it is right beside it! I would try it because it is really delicious! So I hope you have fun because I am going in July and I know I will!!!!!

HAVE FUN MAKE SURE U GO TO THE AMUSEMENT PARKS AND THE WATER PARKS!!!

Also, River City Cafe for good burgers.

Applebee%26#39;s and such have the same prices as other Applebee%26#39;s in other areas. There%26#39;s a TGI Friday%26#39;s in Murrells Inlet, there%26#39;s also a Hooters by that. I second the hamburgers at River City Cafe.

Count mine as the 3rd vote for River City Cafe. Very Good and fun. There are several reasonbly priced seafood restaurants in Murrels Inlet area. We usually go to Myrtle Beach 3 times a year and always enjoy. Congratulations on your wedding and I hope you have a good time on your honeymoon.

Thank you all for your help...this makes it so much easier :) We are so excited for our upcoming trip to MB...we have heard so much about MB and everything that there is to do!...Thanks again!

    Here%26#39;s a tip:

If you got to Ryan%26#39;s (a great Buffet) around 3-3:30 pm, you will dine for the lunch rate %26amp; probably be too full to eat dinner later. They put the dinner entrees out at 4pm. This is one of the best meal bargains in MB, and many seniors take advantage of it. A huge selection, %26amp; the food is also a cut above the average buffet (i.e.: Old Country, etc.)

There is an authentic mexican restaurant on 17 (near 28th N.) called Chalupas. Food is excellent, waiters are mexican and very reasonable- a fun place to eat. There is a small place called Bubba%26#39;s in Surfside ( a short drive south of MB) across the street from the beach. They have lots of fresh fish and are famous for their fresh flounder sandwich. It is a nice, informal eatery and also quite reasonable. Have a great time!

I would suggest that you check out the numerous family owned restaurants located off of the Blvd. or on rt. 17. If you are staying in north myrtle, Ocean drive, Hoskins restaurant has a great breakfast and lunch. There are also other alternatives, such as Bolineau%26#39;s Grocery...it actually has a deli and buffet inside, along with sit down accomadations...the food is so good there that I get it to go and eat it later in the condo.

Just ask the life guards....they know where the great meals are for the best deals.

Have a great time in Myrtle!

    Bike rentals

We are staying a week and I was wondering if advance reservations are needed for bike rentals. I don%26#39;t know how busy it gets mid July - but we want to be sure to have bikes to ride once we get there.

    Bike rentals

We were in HH last week, and we called in the AM for two bikes, which were delivered in about 15 minutes to Shelter Cove. I don%26#39;t think it is necessary to reserve before you arrive.

    Bike rentals

Great. Thanks for your info. Did you do any dolphin tours? That%26#39;s one thing on our ';wish list';. Otherwise looking forward to some good ol%26#39; R%26amp;R!

We always go to Hilton Head the last week in July. We always rent bikes from Hilton Head Bike Co. We never had to reserve bikes but last year when we called they were out. We got bikes at another rental place but they were more expensive and not as nice. This year we are reserving the bikes. You can reserve from Hilton Head Bike Co. online.

We rent from Pedals and there is no advance reservation needed. Biking the island is great fun!

    Monster coupon book

Where do you get the monster coupon books? I see you can buy them online for $5.00. Can you pick them up for free in MB somewhere? Thanks!

    Monster coupon book

The last time we were there in 2003,we got a free copy at our hotel.

    Monster coupon book

Most hotels, grocery stores and convenience stores have all the coupon books. They are not hard to find. However I haven%26#39;t found the deals to be all that good and rarely use them. They usually have some strings attached like using them before 5:00pm or having to buy something to get a discount on another item. Places that have a AAA discount is much better than the coupon.

Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington State Park. With two weeks you should think about a day trip to Charleston.

Myrtle Beach is the second most visited tourist spot in the country ( right behind Orlando). I assure you no one need be bored there. Plenty to do! Enjoy!

Don%26#39;t forget that you can minature golf yourself to death here. There seems to be one on nearly every corner. Some are much more fun than others. Very crowded at night/evenings. Daytime deals like play all day for $5 are common and there are almost no lines but it can be very hot. You might also check into Capt. D ick%26#39;s Marina down in Murrell%26#39;s inlet for fishing trips, boat rentals, seadoo rentals and speed boat rides.
