north myrtle beach vs myrtle beach
As an adult I%26#39;d much prefer North Myrtle Beach, in the Ocean Drive section, it is more of a small beach town atmosphere, with my favorite beach music ';shag'; clubs. There are still arcades around for the kids and a good size amusement park nearby. Depending on the age of the teenagers they might enjoy the action of Downtown Myrtle Beach better. There%26#39;s a lot going on, and at this time in my life, too crowded in the summer for me. There are a number of large arcades, 2 large amusement parks, and even an oceanfront waterpark, plus much more. The Magic Attic is a teenage only dance club, at the MB Pavillion.
Broadway at the Beach is nearby and has lots of fun themed restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. There is a Ripley%26#39;s Aquarium, there and also Imax theaters. Across the street from Broadway, there is a NASCAR Speedpark, very popular.
Tons to do in the area, but also tons of crowds.
I grew up going to the MB area, and even spent my college summer breaks down there working. It was great fun. I%26#39;m not up on the latest, best condos resorts, however, we now own a beach house on Holden Beach, 45 minutes from Myrtle, so we just drive in for the day. (mostly during off season) Funbeaches.com has some good MB info. as well as the MB Chamber of Commerce website.
Best Wishes!

Dear Geomoe, I rent a 2 bedroom 2 bath condo at Arcadian Dunes. I%26#39;ve been there a couple of times and haven%26#39;t been disappointed. I%26#39;d suggest a couple of websites to visit: www.myrtlebeach.com (general info) and I%26#39;ve stayed at this condo lsited at www.heavenlyvacationrentals.com.
Geomoe,
I agree with the recommendation of North Myrtle Beach. It will satisfy everyone needs as it is fairly quiet, but you have direct access to the other features of Myrtle Beach which may interest your teenagers.
I can recommend Ocean Bay Club as a condo to stay in. #1409 is very nice unit which I have stayed in. I believe it is managed by Elliott Realty.

we prefer NMB/ less crowded! Still plenty to do. We have stayed in wide variety of places in the many yrs we have vacationed there and have never been disappointed. We go thru one of the local realty co.- condo-world, elliott, Century 21 thomas, Grand Strand Resorts, etc and all have been great. There are some nice family style lowrise condos with pools that are oceanfront on ocean blvd [ ocean garden villas, palmwood villas, seascape, ] There are some very nice highrise condos with more amenities [ indoor pools, lazy rivers, etc] Can go thru same realtors. Dont forget- specify North Myrtle and Myrtle - very different places.
I agree with anga, when I first thought of coming back to MB, my first thought was wanting and needing to stay right where the action is, but now I have decided that NMB will suit our needs/wants just fine. Might be a good thing to stay a little farther away from %26#39;the action%26#39;. My husband would probably prefer to be farther away from crowds as well.
NMB will not disappoint you and your spouse or your teenage kids. House of Blues and other great things are directly across rt. 17 from Ocean Drive - we like the Nautical Watch condo%26#39;s. Check out Beachcomber Vacation Rentals for rates/photo%26#39;s. Great streetside pool (well screened from the street) but the beauty is beach and ocean front location.
They say each unit sleeps 6 but we think 4 is best. Two floors, two balconies, two full baths - all necessities with teenagers!
Also, washer/dryers in each unit make it nice to not have to over-pack.
Also, Broadway on the beach is a short cab ride away, or if you%26#39;re feeling particularly festive yourself - join the kids there. It%26#39;s like City Walk in Orlando - mini golf, etc.
I really believe MB is the best location for family vacations. They don%26#39;t seem to have commercialized the way Ocean City %26amp; Jersey Shore (etc) have.
My first NMB vacation was in 1989. We have made 1 trip there each summer since. I love NMB. When we started we had no kids (lots of golf) now we have 2-14yrs, 1-9yrs. We or them have never lacked for things to do in NMB.
Check out The Myrtle Beach Resort on Highway 17 South between Myrtle Beach and Surfside. The location is great, the condos are very nice and you are close to everything....you%26#39;ll drive to everything no matter where you stay. This resort is the largest on the Grand Strand.
Enjoy your stay.
